‘Until further notice’

Date: 12 September, 2008  |  Posted By: nai  |  Category: Thinking out loud

Originally, our posting at our head office at Fort Bonifacio was just supposed to go on for a month, from Sept. 1 to 28. However, we had gotten word that we were to be extended ‘until further notice’ on this posting. This was unwelcome news because apart from not receiving our ‘hazard pay’ (which is one of the benefits that we receive when we are posted on the field), I had already quite gotten used to our field schedule, which was entirely unlike the schedule at the head office with was on a regular 8 to 5 shift.

Oh well, when we transferred to our new department, we always knew there was that possibility of us being rotated and being posted in our head office. The only thing that bothered us was the ‘until further notice’ part as this sounded so vague, and who knew, we could be posted here for 6 months for all I know.

I am crossing my fingers that it doesn’t at all happen like that and that we would have a definite term, say until the end of October. Also, our date with destiny is fast approaching…October 11 is barely a month away…

sigh…

Hazardous work environment

I am now at our head office here in Fort Bonifacio.

As I expected, I knew that my body would need some adjusting to the weather condition (read: pollution) here. Right now, my throat hurts, which is usually an indication of not-so-good things to come my way. If left unchecked, this usually escalates into cough and colds, and then to fever, in extreme cases. Good thing I brought along with me a bottle of my most trusted oral antiseptic, Betadine garlgle.

This is truly a godsend for me especially when I am feeling the itch on my throat, as it has been proven time and again, that if only I stick to the schedule of gargling every 4 hours, usually I find that the itch goes away, with no more onset of the complications I mentioned earlier.

Now, who says that only those on the field should be eligible for hazard pay? :p

Fort Bonifacio, here I come!!

Correction, here ‘we’ come.

Just drew the short straw today, and we were lucky enough to be the first group to be posted at our head office at Fort Bonifacio come Sept. 1.

AFter the culmination of our month-long classroom instruction at our Leyte Geothermal Production Field (LGPF), we were divided into three groups, to be distributed to our different sites all over the country. One group would be posted in Bacolod, and the other group at Bacman, Sorsogon.

While we will be there, we will hopefully be learning on the mechanics of contract administration and being part of the technical support team of all our other groups on the field. Personally, I am welcome to this development, so long as all of us gets equal opportunities to be posted at our head office. I just have one apprehension though..being the promdi that I am, I hope not to get lost in the place they call Manila…hahaha.

On a happier note, I will be leaving for home tomorrow…in time to reach Dumaguete for my birthday…yey! :)

Long Intervals

Yay! It seems i just get the chance to post once every month. LOL. I am currently staying at the housing complex of our Leyte office, which is a 30-minute trip from Ormoc City.

Just a while ago, the Smartbro connection here at the housing unit where we stay at has just been repaired. It was damaged during typhoon Frank and it took them this long to restore the connection. Anyway, what’s important is we already have a connection here. Hopefully I can also find time to post because nowadays, I just cant find time to do the juggling.

I’ll be staying here for the duration of our 1 month training here in Leyte so hopefully I’ll be back in Dumaguete by the last week of August.

Anyway, I do hope to be able to post more in the next few days..

Back from hibernation

Weeew! I know, i know. I haven’t been online much the past month. Blame it on the busy-ness (kuno lol), and the fact that I have recently been living high up there in the mountains. I am now in Dumaguete, and I haven’t been home for quite a while. My folks are in the US now and they won’t be home until the 17th so we are pretty much left to fend for ourselves right now. hehe..

Regarding my hiatus, I have recently transferred to another department in the company where I work for, and right now, I am undergoing training as a drilling engineer, and this will be going on for the next 7 or so months. While on training and while on the job, I will be staying on the staff house, which is on site, and there is no internet connection there.

But hey, looking on the bright side, I am enjoying free board and lodging, and not to mention that when I will be done with my training, I will have more opportunities to work outside the country for $$$..lol. As of now, I still have to make sacrifices which will hopefully pay off in the near future. Talk about long term planning.

This big new world that has unraveled in front of me has been quite challenging, and has me learning from the school of hard knocks..and many times have I literally knocked myself on the head for acting stupid. But hey, I am learning, albeit the hard way. But I am learning, and that is what matters, right? :)

So right now, I am learning to be a “jack of all trades” hehehe. Hopefully, I will be able to master even just one. LOL :-p

An Interesting Revelation

Date: 05 June, 2008  |  Posted By: nai  |  Category: Mi Familia

I was quite…well..what would be the best term to describe it..ummm..astounded(?) when after dinner today, an officemate of mine told me, “In 20 years time, mark my words, Andrew will be the richest among your brood..”

He was referring to my brother Andrew whom he got to meet during the course of the summer wherein they spent the most part of their summer vacation here in Bacolod. True, he said that Andrew lacks the maturity and behaves quite like a child most of the times (an example of which is that he could easily be bribed by the promise of food..lol), but that officemate of mine saw in Andrew a trait which he saw in my father. From his words, he told me that he had just gotten to know us for a short time, but he saw in Andrew a trait which only he possessed, which he got from our dad. He told me, only Andrew got up early in the morning to get busy with whatever things needed to be done. Meaning, that he was industrious, which unlike us, would be content on spending the time on bed early in the morning, especially if there weren’t any things that immediately needed attending to.

As I pondered on this thought, I smiled. Perhaps, this was the Johari window at work. I have never quite thought of it that way, but knowing how perceptive that particular officemate of mine was, I guess he did have a reason to be able to come up with that inference.

I hope he is right though. All in all, I am hoping that all of us siblings would be successful in whatever endeavor we choose to undertake.

That is the beauty of being in a family. I love my family. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world.

US of A, here they come!

Date: 30 May, 2008  |  Posted By: nai  |  Category: Mi Familia, Travel & Escapades

Just came from the airport this afternoon after picking up the parents from their flight from Manila. They just came from the US embassy for their appearance for their visa application. Thank God that they were granted a visa for their trip come June 21. Actually, as soon as they got word on the status of their application, they immediately sent a text message yesterday so I knew of the news fast.

They will be heading there for an international convention of their church outreach group for married couples, the Worldwide Marriage Encounter, i dunno if you heard of that group.

They have been quite active in that apostolate of theirs. Come to think of it, their involvement in that group had quite an impact on our family life.

Let me just explain how. You see, before their involvement on that organization, there used to be 4 of us, composed of 3 boys, and then the only girl. For a while there, they decided that it would be a period for them as 4 children would be enough. The gaps in years of the 4 children was 2 years for the first 3 children, and then 3 years for the only girl. After their involvement (our sister was already 5 years old by then), we had brother number five, and just 11 months after that, we had our bunso (our youngest). LoL. I often hear them jokingly say that the last 2 were the result of overflowing love.

Anyway, we have had quite a journey with our family.

If you ask me, I would always tell you, “The more the merrier.”

..molesting our long lost sibling.. :)

And oh, regarding that US trip, I’ll be eagerly awaiting the pasalubong. :)

Make up your mind already!

Yet again, I changed the theme once more. Hehe.

I remember growing up, whenever someone keeps changing his mind, he is likened to a girl, perhaps attributing that unique trait of always changing his mind to that of a female. Well, I don’t know if there is any  truth to that. Anyway, it is quite nice to break the monotone every once in a while don’t you think? :)

This theme is called Silver Sleek, another theme I downloaded off of the Wordpress collection of free themes.

Guess what else is new? :)

Ummm..you might’ve noticed that the blogroll widget on the 2nd sidebar already has a scrollbar..that’s all thanks to Roselle for putting up with my bugging her to teach me how she did it on her page. Haha! Actually, I wasn’t able to do it like the way she described it in the post because when I followed the instructions to the detail, it still didn’t give the results that were shown like that in here site. So I did some experimenting with the theme editor (the sidebar.php) and viola! haha..in Visayan, the term would be “chamba”.

Toink!
