US of A, here they come!

Just came from the airport this afternoon after picking up the parents from their flight from Manila. They just came from the US embassy for their appearance for their visa application. Thank God that they were granted a visa for their trip come June 21. Actually, as soon as they got word on the status of their application, they immediately sent a text message yesterday so I knew of the news fast.

They will be heading there for an international convention of their church outreach group for married couples, the Worldwide Marriage Encounter, i dunno if you heard of that group.

They have been quite active in that apostolate of theirs. Come to think of it, their involvement in that group had quite an impact on our family life.

Let me just explain how. You see, before their involvement on that organization, there used to be 4 of us, composed of 3 boys, and then the only girl. For a while there, they decided that it would be a period for them as 4 children would be enough. The gaps in years of the 4 children was 2 years for the first 3 children, and then 3 years for the only girl. After their involvement (our sister was already 5 years old by then), we had brother number five, and just 11 months after that, we had our bunso (our youngest). LoL. I often hear them jokingly say that the last 2 were the result of overflowing love.

Anyway, we have had quite a journey with our family.

If you ask me, I would always tell you, “The more the merrier.”

..molesting our long lost sibling.. :)

And oh, regarding that US trip, I’ll be eagerly awaiting the pasalubong. :)

Make up your mind already!

Yet again, I changed the theme once more. Hehe.

I remember growing up, whenever someone keeps changing his mind, he is likened to a girl, perhaps attributing that unique trait of always changing his mind to that of a female. Well, I don’t know if there is any  truth to that. Anyway, it is quite nice to break the monotone every once in a while don’t you think? :)

This theme is called Silver Sleek, another theme I downloaded off of the WordPress collection of free themes.

Guess what else is new? :)

Ummm..you might’ve noticed that the blogroll widget on the 2nd sidebar already has a scrollbar..that’s all thanks to Roselle for putting up with my bugging her to teach me how she did it on her page. Haha! Actually, I wasn’t able to do it like the way she described it in the post because when I followed the instructions to the detail, it still didn’t give the results that were shown like that in here site. So I did some experimenting with the theme editor (the sidebar.php) and viola! haha..in Visayan, the term would be “chamba”.

Toink!

This pic was forwarded by a friend. Found it so amusing since I studied elementary in an institution run by nuns. Hope you find the humor in this all.

Cheers! :)

WW – Two Down!

Date: 21 May, 2008  |  Posted By: nai  |  Category: Snapshots, Technogeeky

This is my first entry for WW, so allow me to to be not so wordless. LOL.

I have just finished tinkering with the sidebars. Actually, I was tinkering with it yesterday, with disastrous results because when I finished with my experimentation, eureka! The sidebars were no longer to be seen..toink..so I had to re upload the theme through CuteFtp to reset it to its original state.

Now the question. Why was I tinkering with it? Simple. I wanted to either (1) add a scrollbar to the blogroll, (2) auto link the blogroll to appear and automatically update in another page, or (3) add a drop down list for the blogroll, all with the ultimate goal of saving some space and avoiding the clutter to the page brought about by having a loooong blogroll list such as the one on DHT. You see, I have been manually writing the blogroll page which is quite tedious and time consuming. So much for working smart. :)

Regarding item (1), I haven’t found any plugin that addresses this concern, although I have found one site (Reflexes) running on WordPress that had a scrollbar on the blogroll. On item (2), I found the plugin and installed and activated it, but didn’t get the desired results, meaning, it didn’t show in the other page that I created. I already queried the author regarding its status on WordPress 2.5.1, thinking this may be the only reason why it didn’t work as I followed their instructions to the dot. On item (3), I found a plugin for it and I was quite successful with making it appear in the sidebar, but encountered the minor problem on the alignment as it spills out of the sidebar (see for yourself LOL). Anyway, I am thinking that perhaps that particular plugin must have been designed for a single sidebar theme (just a hunch), but I have already asked the plugin creator to take a look at it and help me address the problem. It is actually a very cool plugin because it shows your links grouped into whatever categories you have grouped them in. I am just waiting on his reply and I do hope he can help me on this one.

*Fingers crossed* :)

Goodnight at 4am

Just about finished installing all the plugins here, as well as the cbox..and yeah! got 2 links in the blogroll page already. hehe. I hope to be able to see the list grow in the next couple of days so I guess there is much work to be done, and more importantly, many people and sites to visit.

Anyway, didn’t feel at all sleepy up until about now (4:28 a.m.) since I slept through most of the hours in the day earlier, coming from night shift work so I guess you could say that my body clock is messed up at the moment. But still, I think it is still ok since I won’t be working until around 2pm later today.

While doing the usual online stuff, I was also watching “Meet Joe Black” on HBO, so you could say that I was taking it easy. Add to that, we were on a conference with Kerslyn and Borski on YM. Talk about multitasking. LOL. Anyway, still, we couldn’t be on a voice conference as I don’t think that that is still possible with the Windows Vista OS. Which gives me an idea to try and look up this particular problem and search for possible writeups regarding this one. You never know, maybe there are already available updates for YM to enable voice conferencing on a Windows Vista OS.

Also, tried signing up for UnionBank’s EON cyber account but it seems that their registration page is down at the moment, so I think I’ll try that again tomorrow.

I guess that’ll be all the cyberwork for now, and I will have to continue with the crusade tomorrow.

Pre-hibernation post

I have changed the theme once again. I guess the dark theme was too unwelcoming, so I am opting for this one instead. By the way, this theme is GlamourYellowRed which I found from WordPress’ own database of themes. I think this will be the final theme (fingers crossed) as I find it soothing to the eyes and the layouting quite suits my taste (urmmm, I didn’t know I had taste LOL)

Anyway, as I said before, much more needs to be done, like the cbox and the bloglog, much like what we did with our first site, so I guess that will follow little by little. After I get those done, then I’ll start visiting other blogs for link exchange. Also, Ima sign up for the memes too so that I can get somewhat of a rhythm going on here.

Stay tuned for more updates (as if there are any tuned in LOL). But hey, that’s the beauty of positive thinking, right? What the mind can conceive, the body can achieve..errmmm..that was from a Pharmaton ad, or so I think.

For now, it’s time to hit the sack..nyt guys! :)

Pimping the blog

Weeew! Spent the better part of the afternoon just finding themes that suited my taste. LOL. Found this current one from the wordpress choosables which I dig. A lot of work still needs to be done here. It is a long and tedious process, so I am hoping I won’t get a nosebleed.

Once more, I would like to thank Lyn for her “out of the box” thinking to solving the myriad of problems that I have encountered today.

Life indeed is full of twists and tumbles. :) but I’m hanging in there.

Are you sure?!

Earlier today, I was interviewed by a panel composed of 3 persons, the Deputy Managers of the department where I am applying for a transfer to. More or less, it was just them making sure that I was already committed on my decision to transfer and not having second thoughts since they needed people who were 100% committed.

the interview was somewhat informal, with the first part doing away with the general personal info such as the age, general interests, with the toughest question of that round being, “Why do you want to transfer to this department?” That was a tricky one since I had to answer in such a way that it would not sound like I am putting down my present department. In fairness, I love my present department, as the people are okay and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed (we have 6 days of consecutive days off). However, there’s always that bit about wanting “career growth” so I guess moving to  a new department would be the logical choice.

Then came the second part.

Questions were like…umm..actually, they weren’t at all questions. It was more of them painting a picture of the job description, and you imagining it, and then reinforcing your resolve that THIS is what you want to be a part of…

1. Nasubukan namin na nagtatrabaho while nagbabakbakan ang NPA and military sa kabilang bundok, kaya mo yan?

2. Habang nag aalmusal kami, dumaan yung military bringing with them the slain rebel leader with his guts spilling out, do you think you can have breakfast like that?

3. Sa ibang sites natin, when we lost water supply, you have to trace the water line through dense vegetation and there is always that risk of a snake lurking somewhere.

Are you sure?

Even though I was a bit surprised/astonished by these facts, at the back of my mind, I certainly was hoping that this was their attempt at bluffing me so that I’d be scared off and run, but I guess I’ve wanted this for so long, so I told them, “Bring it on!” or words to that effect. :)

I hope this decision is right.
